“A fantastic 2 days! We learnt lots of new rope work and how to move a team swiftly and safely down the river! We all had great fun and will all take this away with us and use with out own groups in the future. Thanks Ash for a great course” –Ryan Buckley, Adventure21 Instructor, Gorge Walking Safety Course 2015.
“Thanks again to Ash for another fantastic WWSR course. The course covered rescue techniques, best use of the equipment carried on a river and safest methods of leading and moving a group down a river. As usual a great course, tons of learning in a fun, safe environment and not forgetting loads of shenanigans.Cheers Ash."–Paul Harris, Freelance Outdoor Instructor, WWSR 2015.
“Ash continues to be very supportive of me and my work with Youth At Risk in his role as Technical Advisor. His pragmatic approach ensures that I have the systems and training in place to assist the children and school staff that we come contact with"–Glenn Rees, Director Lancashire Group Intervention Panel (GRIP)
“An excellent course, I can't believe how much we did over the weekend. We shared ideas and were shown the safest ways to provide assistance to each other; working in pairs and making decisions quickly. The course put into practice lots of ideas and techniques I'm sure to use in the future. Cheers Ash for a really good weekend."–George Mitson, Outdoor Instructor, WWSR 2015.
"Ash really cares for the people he works with and knows his stuff. He has a knack for breaking the complex into simple, easy to follow steps that work and he is an explorer in every sense of the word. In the 12 years I’ve known him Ash has continually explored new activities, new areas and new approaches to his own teaching and performance, making him a vibrant and exciting person to learn from and spend time with."–Richard Ensoll, MIC, Senior Lecturer University of Cumbria Outdoor Studies Course.
"Has had an amazing day of learning in EYFS. Thank you so much Ashley for giving up your time to share your expertise and equipment. We all learned so much - grown ups included! We love going with the children and letting them lead our learning - I'm excited to see where they take us next! Learn to love, love to learn ️️️️ Xx"– Jen Pickup, EYFS Teacher, Barrowford Primary School.
"Having been away with Ash on a couple of short British trips to Mid Wales, The Lakes and Snowdonia, as well as a month long expedition to Sichuan in China, I can vouch for his consummate professionalism, and kindness. He is a great leader, with genuine, insightful, people skills and a very sound technical knowledge. He is always keen to develop those he is working with, be it in terms of self-esteem and personal growth or by adding new tools to their repertoire. He is also highly efficient, well organised and meticulous in his planning. As if this were not enough he genuinely cares about the team he is looking after and is superb company on the hill. What more could one want….."– Dr Simon Young, Head of Outdoor Education, Cranleigh School.
"Ash continues to play an active role in the process of procuring outdoor provision on a massive scale. He comes to us with a wide network and broad knowledge of the outdoors industry. He has been running site visits for us and providing organisations with support to be able to pass site visits."– Ian McInnes, Outdoor Education Manager, The Challenge Network.
" I have done many courses with Ash and Outdoor Resources over the last few years while studying at the University of Cumbria. He is an outstanding instructor, he has helped me to improve my kayaking skills and my confidence in myself at the same time; even when I’m not doing a course with him, he is always there to answer any questions I have, no matter what they are. The courses were run smoothly and in great detail, he made sure everyone understood what was happening and always demonstrated things that people were unsure of. Overall, he is one of the best instructors I know, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a qualification."– Leanne Richards, Outdoor Studies Student, University of Cumbria.
" Yesterday Ash took me over to Hellvellyn in preparation for my WML Assessment in a few weeks and it has to be one of the most valuable hill days that I have ever had, even more so than other specific training courses I have attended. Ash was able to cover lots of topic areas, whilst making the whole experience just feel like a hill day. Any lessons learned were relevant to the ground we were on and conducted as part of a 'journey' to the top of the hill. We covered step cutting, bucket seats, buried axes, stomper belays, as well as achieving a grade 1 climb and a summit. The teaching was completely student focused. Ash encourages you to come up with your own answers and practise your existing knowledge, whilst 'topping you up' and giving you a few helpful pointers that make you wonder why you ever did it any differently!! My confidence has improved dramatically as a result. All in all an excellent day and I look forward to getting out with Ash again in the near future."– Jo Young, Expedition Leader, Outlook Expeditions.
"Just wanted to thank you for running the WWSR session this afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed the session from start to finish. The pace was great and accommodated all (not easy with such a broad range of experience within the group) and some how you managed to cover pretty much all that was mentioned during the white board brain storm! In such a tight time frame, I feel that you managed to pack a lot in without the session ever feeling rushed and all of the elements were covered in enough depth to warrant there inclusion.I left this afternoon with an urge to get out and learn more and practice some long unused techniques, not because I did not get enough from the session but because I am exited and enthused by another great day on the water!" – Paul, Manager, Keswick Canoe and Bushcraft.
